Live Scores, Match Clocks and Timelines Explained
Learn how live match clocks, goals, cards, substitutions and score updates are presented.
How live scores update
A live-score page combines the current score with a match clock and status. Updates depend on the competition and data coverage, so a goal, card or substitution may appear shortly after the event happens on the pitch.
A page should show when its information was last refreshed. If a live match appears delayed, use the refresh control and confirm important information with the official competition or club.
Reading a match timeline
- Goals normally include the scoring team, player and minute when available.
- Yellow and red cards identify disciplinary events.
- Substitutions show players entering and leaving the match.
- VAR and penalty events may be corrected after an initial update.
- Half-time and full-time markers separate the major phases of the match.
Why live information can change
Live feeds can be corrected when an event is awarded to a different player, a goal is overturned or the official match status changes. Fixtures Hub keeps the latest available record rather than preserving an incorrect earlier update.
