How to Play the Soccer Puzzle

Each row and each column of the grid is a football club. Tap or click a cell to see a shortlist of players, and pick the one who played for both the row club and the column club at some point in their career - a transfer, a loan spell, anywhere their paths crossed. Cells marked × have no shared player on record and can't be opened, and don't count against your score. Solve every available cell to complete the day's puzzle.

The Daily Soccer Puzzle is free, needs no account, and resets once a day - a new grid every day, and every visitor gets the exact same one, so you can compare notes and share your result with friends without giving the answers away. Want more than one puzzle a day? Practice Puzzles give you extra grids to work through at your own pace, in stages of ten, with your progress kept on this device.

Tips for Solving Faster

  • Start with clubs you know well - a player who spent years at a club is easier to recall than a brief loan spell.
  • Think about transfer windows and career stages: young academy graduates, marquee free transfers, and end-of-career moves are all common crossover points.
  • If you're stuck, the shortlist of players shown for each cell is a real clue - one of them is definitely correct.

Soccer Puzzle FAQs

Is the Soccer Puzzle free? Yes, completely - no account, no sign-up, on both the website and the Fixtures Hub mobile app.

Does the puzzle reset for everyone at the same time? Yes - the Daily Puzzle is the same grid for every visitor and resets once a day, Wordle-style.

What happens if I get an answer wrong? Your pick still shows while you're playing. Once you've attempted every available cell, the full grid reveals the correct player for any you missed.

Can I play more than once a day? The Daily Puzzle is once a day by design, but Practice Puzzles give you unlimited additional grids, organised into stages of ten steps each.
